Proposed Admission Arrangements for September 2011

The admission number for Year 7 is 240.  In the event of over-subscription, places will be allocated in the following order:

230 places will be allocated:

Category 1:

1a

Any child with a Statement of Special Educational Need, where the statement names Rosebery will automatically be given priority

1b

Looked After Children (children in public care) will automatically be given priority

Category 2:

2a

Sisters of pupils who will still be attending the school at the date of the new pupil’s entry.

In addition:

2b

The remainder of the 230 places available under Category 1 will be allocated to pupils on the basis of distance of the home from the main school gate, measured in a straight line, with those closest to the school being given highest priority.

Category 3:

Up to 10 places may be awarded to pupils on the basis of the ‘Bentley Test’ for music.  Any places not allocated under Category 3 will be added to Category 2.

Notes:

  1. The distance from the school in each case is measured in a straight line from the school’s main gate. Rosebery School uses software called dataMAP, supplied by SIA Ltd to calculate the distance from home to school.  It uses address data and calculates the distance in miles, to 3 decimal places in a straight line between the school front gates and the centre of the child's main residence.  For those living in flats, the same approach is used and there is no differentiation between ground floor flats and those on other floors.
  2. Sisters are defined as, sister, half sister, adopted sister, step sister or the daughter of the parent/carer’s partner, and in every case who is living as part of the same family unit at the same address Monday to Friday.  If the student lives during the week at two different addresses with adults who have parental responsibility, the address where the student lives for the majority of the time and where the child benefit is paid will be taken as the main address.
  3. Parents may apply for more than one category.
  4. Where two or more girls have identical marks in the music test and this prevents identification of the last music place, the final place will be allocated to the pupil living closest to the school.
  5. Before a place is offered a copy of the Community Tax bill will be requested as evidence of residency.
  6. Waiting list places will be allocated using the above criteria should vacancies occur. The waiting lists are maintained on a continuous basis.  In the Autumn Term each Year 7 parent who is on the waiting list is written to and asked if they wish to remain on the list.  If there is no response, then the name is taken off.  For all those who wish to stay on the list, then this will be for the rest of the academic year.
  7. Late applications are usually due to families moving into the area. They must be in writing and be supported by evidence of proof of address, such as a solicitor's letter/ council tax bill.  These will be accepted by Rosebery as part of the general offer process until the 31st December.  After the 31st December, then late applications will be added to the waiting list and treated in the same manner as other waiting list entries.  It is the date of moving into the property that will be used as the date that the late application is added to the waiting list.
